A letter of support is a letter typically from an organization or an individual to show that there is community support for a certain cause or idea. They can be very influential in determining whether a cause moves forward or not.
How to Write a Letter of Support
They should be addressed to whoever you are trying to inform of your support (ie. an elected official).
State the purpose for writing the letter. Why is the topic important for you and/or your organization.
Know your audience. Once you understand who you are writing to, consider what information you can put in your letter that they would find convincing.
Do your research. Use credible facts and statistics that support why a certain topic is a problem that needs to be solved. Make sure to cite the facts to add credibility.
Close the letter by restating what you want to happen and why you support the topic.
Mail or email the letter to the individual(s) you are addressing.
